If your hotel doesn’t have a gym like mine, you can work out at many places throughout the city. There’s The Fit Club, located inside La Zona Romanica. But, if you’re looking for a place to swim laps, like I usually am, there’s a lap pool at ViveFit a little further away from La Zona Romantica. Or you could swim in the ocean like an open water swimmer, but who wants to be eaten by sea monsters? Yeah, not me!
The Fit Club
The Fit Club is a gym in La Zona Romantica or Emiliano Zapata neighborhood. It’s a few blocks inland. It has all the amenities you need. From a group fitness room to elliptical, treadmills, free-weights, and other standard gym equipment. It’s a great place to workout.
The Fit Club is $200MX pesos for a day pass. That’s about $10 USD.
It has a great locker room and showers. Towels and sweat rags for your convenience, upon request. They also have a smoothie bar. They sell everything from protein smoothies to bottles of water for a price.
The gym is kept very clean, it’s never truly busy, although there are people always working out . It DOES NOT have a pool. This gym is exclusively for ‘dry land’ training.
If you’re staying in La Zona Romantica, this cute gym should definitely be the one you hit up.
It’s located at Rivera Molino Local 9 Ignacio L. Vallarta 130 Centro. Puerto Vallarta, Jal Mexico.
Where to Swim Laps…
2022 Update: ViveFit closed during the pandemic and has currently not reopened. But there is another pool at Bobadilla Stadium, about a 30-minute Uber ride from La Zona Romantica. But I have yet to swim there.
During this trip to Puerto Vallarta I wanted to swim laps. I Prefer a pool thats 25 meters or yards. That’s the standard length for a swim workout. There is a public pool at the nearby college but it was shut while I was there.
As I searched I found a gym outside the Zona Romantica. A place called Vive Fit Fitness and Swimming. The neighborhood is rustic and probably more authentic than the resort area. There is nothing to fear though, Puerto Vallarta is a very safe place. Although, I always tell people to keep their wits about them just in case.
Vive Fit Fitness and Swimming is located at Francisco Villa 299 Col. Olímpica Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mex. C.P. 48340. We took an Uber from Sapphire hotel to this gym. The Ubers are crazy cheep in Puerto Vallarta. I highly recommend you take them as mode of transportation.
Although this gym seemed to have everything, a weight room, personal trainers and all the regular gym amenities, I was only there for the pool. This pool is 25 meters long, which is perfect for lap swimming. A shower cap is mandatory though. The locker room is so tiny, two people make it cramped. There are two showers located outside of the locker rooms to rinse off before hoping in. The pool water is not heavy chlorinated either. I didn’t feel like I was shriveling up. In fact, the water felt very fresh. For about $175 MX pesos per person (or about $9 USD) you can buy a day pass to swim here. Who doesn’t want to burn a few calories after eating out for breakfast, lunch and dinner every night? Lets not forget all those drinks we’ve had… Yes. It’s time to workout.
