My time in Berlin came and went way too fast. Life is too short, and there is never enough time. So I purchased a ticket to get my sister to Paris as a gift and met her there.
I booked Mama Shelter East because it’s a hip hotel and more inexpensive than anything I’ve seen in this town.
Paris is home to so much beauty. But with that beauty comes a hefty price tag. So when I saw the prices for Mama Shelter, I jumped at it.

Mama Shelter East Paris, Hotel Location
Although the hotel is far from the city center, it’s about a 12-minute walk to three train (and tram) stops, making it convenient if you want to get anywhere.
It’s located right next to Pere Lachaise cemetery, a landmark everyone must see. Tombs of this cemetery include Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison, and Oscar Wilde.
The actual address is 109 Rue de Bagnolet, 75020 Paris, France.
I wanted to have a picnic here at one point, but I was never able to with our time and schedule.
If I’m being honest, I thought the hotel was slightly too out of the way for me, but it did not take away from anything. I still had an incredible time in Paris, and I lost a few pounds walking to and from the Metro every day.
Getting into the city center took about 15 minutes once you got on the train.
And, there really wasn’t a need to venture out. The neighborhood had it all. It had brasseries, restaurants galore, bars and clubs, patisseries, and more.
I even ventured across the street one morning to eat a coffee and croissant breakfast for five euros, which is unheard of in Paris. That’s pretty cheap.
Mama Shelter East Paris, Hotel Review
I arrived in Paris around 10 pm. So by the time I got to the hotel from CDG (Charles de Gaulle airport), it was about midnight.
The entrance to the hotel is kind of small which makes it seem hidden.
At midnight, you’ll notice the restaurant doors, but if you try to go in, they’re closed.
Don’t panic. The entrance is past this door, almost behind a tree.
The entrance is dark and slender.
There’s a chalk wall throughout the ceiling of the lobby and the restaurant. It looks like graffiti art almost. It gives it a certain touch.
Checking in was easy since I arrived so late.
But because I arrived so late, only the bar was open, so I didn’t have a chance to eat anything.
They have a vending machine that only accepts contactless credit cards. Even though I have one, it didn’t seem to work for meโjust my luck.
Sex Toys and Anal Gel
Behind the check-in desk, you’ll find several glass cabinets with T-shirts, mugs, and souvenirs for purchase.
But if you look closely, the middle cabinet has a set of vibrators, sex toys, anal lube (and regular lube), and rope for purchase. In case you’re into secret fantasies with your lover.
Mama Shelter Paris East Room Review
I got a room for myself and one for my sister and her best friend.
My room consisted of one twin bed. Her’s was two twin beds put together.
Both rooms were pretty small. But if you’ve ever been to Paris before, you’ll realize that pretty much all hotels are tiny. Except for the Gare de Lyon Courtyard hotel I stayed in on my last trip. That hotel has American-sized hotel rooms.
There was a large desk and a flat-screen TV. The room itself was pretty dark, though. But the lamps on the bed and desk were enough for me.
The hallway had a closet with hangars, a mini fridge and a small sink. But there was no kettle for hot water and no coffee fixings.
As I mentioned during my Axel Hotel Berlin review, I’m not sure if this is because of covid or if they never had it.
The Restroom
The restroom was good.
The light was bright. The toilet was fully functional. It had a heated rack for your towels, which I loved.
The shower and water pressure were perfect. Except they only give you one bar of soap. You don’t get shampoo, conditioner, or anything elseโjust one bar.
The mirror is a perfect size.
The sink is low and sleek. Mine drained very slowly, which always made me nervous about washing my face too long. But I managed to work with it.
And my little sister didn’t have any drainage issues in her restroom.
For about $88 plus tax, I’d say this room is perfect for my sister and me.
More Sex Toys Hidden in Plain Sight
On each bedside lamp, there is a mask. I had two Star Wars masks. But my sister did not have matching masks, which made us ask ourselves why they would give us masks.
Halloween was a week before we arrived. Even so, you’ll notice these masks in pictures from their website.
We concluded that these masks are for sexual role-playing. Given the lube and sex toys in the lobby, it makes sense that they’re trying to provide a secret sex theme without being overtly obvious or pushy about any of it.
So I thought I would pass on this information in case you decide to book a sexy getaway with your sexual partner.
The restaurant
The restaurant and bar area is HUGE. I grabbed a soda on the first night because I thought the kitchen was still open. But the service is good, and the staff is very young.
It goes hand in hand with their young, hip, and edgy theme.
They have breakfast every morning from 6 am to 10 am or something like that.
Some packages included breakfast, but my price did not. Therefore I had to pay 20 Euros each time I wanted to eat.
I tried it once but decided it was too expensive.
They had a buffet-style breakfast with crepes, eggs, bacon, a bread area with cheese, and slices of cold cuts.
You could get patisserie, coffee, and tea.
They even had a smoothie maker with fresh fruit and veggies to make your very own morning smoothie. It was tasty, but not for 20 Euros.
For dinner, I got their Demi-Chicken (a half chicken). It was fantastic and surprisingly big.
Let’s break it down:
For about $88 per night, I’d say the Mama Shelter East in Paris is well worth it.
It’s a little out of the way and not central. But the neighborhood is cute.
The hotel itself is also cute. The rooms are small, but that’s to be expected in Paris.
And to top it off, Mama Shelter East is secretly a sex-themed hotel for you to live out some wild fantasies.

Sounds like a great getaway for couples looking for an affordable retreat in the passion hub of France. Seems like certain things were omitted like tea and coffee making, but as you say with typical prices much higher in capital cities Iโd still go without for a while for the value, especially with such a close location to train stations, as I donโt mind a little stroll, and you have to burn off the croissants somehow. Have a great day, and feel free to check out any of my hotel reviews also ๐
