This question might sound a little silly for some readers, but trust me, many tourists get this confused. I get countless emails telling me they couldn’t find the gay neighborhood and need my help. So, let’s clear a few things up before we continue.

Puerto Vallarta is in the state of Jalisco, Mexico—however, the airport butts up against the next state, which is the state of Nayarit.

There is only one airport in Puerto Vallarta (PVR). But many tourists get confused because some airlines call this the Nayarit airport while others call it the Puerto Vallarta airport.

When you fly to Puerto Vallarta, you fly into Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (the code for this airport is PVR). As long as your plane ticket says PVR, you know you’re heading to the correct destination.

How Far is PVR From Puerto Vallarta?

Getting to your hotel depends on how far it is from PVR. Also, PVR is inside the city of Puerto Vallarta. Once you land here, you’re technically already in PV.

From here, it all depends on the neighborhood in which you are staying.

For example, the gay area of Puerto Vallarta is about a 30 to 45-minute taxi ride from the airport, depending on traffic.
