DER BOILER | Berlin’s Gay Men’s Sauna Extensive Review

My goal for this trip was to check out the sexy and incredible bathhouse in Berlin: Der Boiler.

I stayed at The Gay Hostel Berlin, my favorite hostel thus far. I highly recommend it to any gay man looking for friends and an amazing gay experience. Here, I met the most amazing group of guys. Each hostel mate, unique in their own way, grew on me in different ways.

We became family. At one point, we all decided to check out Der Boiler. Der Boiler is a gay sauna in Berlin.

Der Boiler Locker Room

Der Boiler is located at Mehringdamm 34, 10961 Berlin, between a couple of buildings through a courtyard.

I stand in line and pay the 21 Euro entrance fee to get in (Update: they’ve raised the price to 25 Euros).

Upon paying, they give you a magnetic bracelet with your locker room number on it. It’s used to open and close it. They also give you a towel.

Other items like sandals, you have to pay extra. I took my own sandals since I over-prepared like always.

They buzz you in, and I walk through the door. I head up two flights of stairs until I hit the locker room. It’s vast. My locker number is 385! Does that mean there are 385 men here today? I guess we’ll find out.

I took this picture from the internet, but this is their locker room. To the left of this picture, there are showers. Behind the photographer, there are toilets.

I look for my locker but take a wrong turn and end up at the showers.

There are four open showers and several sinks with hand cream and blow dryers to primp yourself up after you’re done here. There are a couple of toilets and even giant massage parlors. This area is open with lots of light. The colors are tame, but it works well.

Lastly, the locker room is clean.

I find my locker and change. I strip down, put my sandals on, wrap a towel around me, and I am ready!

The Sauna Facilities

Here is the jacuzzi pool

To get to the sauna area, you have to go back down two flights of stairs.

The middle floor consists of:

  • an outdoor area,
  • a lounge,
  • and a cafe.

You come here to relax, have a coffee, or re-energize for your next sexual encounter.

Upon landing, you realize how beautiful this space is.

There’s a big jacuzzi near the center with a lounge area in front of it.

A plethora of German men walking around, swinging like pendulums. They’re built, tall, lean, and beautiful.

The jacuzzi is crowded with many guys relaxing, chillin’.

Although this place is not as big as Sauna Paraiso in Madrid, it lacks up for it in beauty and cleanliness. If you make a hard left at the Jacuzzi, you’ll encounter two dry saunas. One is 60 degrees Celcius. The other is hot but not that hot.

Directly in front of that, you have ice-cold showers.

This is the less hot, dry sauna

The surfaces are dark but they accent this with bright blue or green lights. There’s techno music playing in the background but it’s not loud like a club or anything. It’s perfect.

Walking back towards the pool area, you’ll find a dark room. Men come here to chill or find their fellatio soulmate. It starts off slow, but it gets heated in here for sure.

A German man literally tried to hypnotize me in this room. He said he knows how to do it, and after that, I’ll be his. I gave it a shot, but I also heard you can’t get hypnotized if you don’t want to. I resisted because I find that type of power scary.

Needless to say, it didn’t work, and I went about my merry way. Although while he tried to do that, I was hypnotized by parts of his anatomy. He needs to use that instead of his hands next time. It’s a better way to pick guys up.

The Private Cabins at Der Boiler

At the opposite end of Der Boiler, you have a tremendous amount of private rooms—corridors of them. Men cruise here for their one-on-one partners.

I walked around just to check it out. I walked into several of them to find shackles on the walls, blue lights, and sometimes jail-like bars.

Each space contained a raised platform with a mat to comfort you if you decide to take someone there. There’s also a smoking lounge completely closed in, so smoke doesn’t disturb the rest of the sauna.

The Steam Room Where It All Goes Down

An area where you can sit… This is is in front of the jacuzzi pool. Plenty of space to lounge and see your surroundings.

The best part of Der Boiler, in my opinion, is the giant steam room right behind the big jacuzzi pool.

It’s cool because you can see into this steam room from the pool. There’s a glass wall. Some guys will be there sitting, relaxing.

On the other side of the glass wall, you can see the pool. You’ll see things clear as day. You can see underwater too. It’s pretty neat.

This gigantic steam room is more like a maze. You weave your way in and out of alcoves. Some areas are totally dark. Others are surrounded by red lights. The steam in this room is perfect. It gives the room a certain feeling of isolation. Although, you’re nothing but isolated. In fact, on Sundays, this room is where it all goes down.

Guys walk around or stand and wait to be touched.

Many men welcome the touch of a stranger.

Give it a try. You might get lucky. Getting rejected by someone shouldn’t be taken personally. It’s part of the game.

Other bottoms sometimes stand with their butts facing the public in case you’re a hungry top.

I lost my hostel mates at this point. However, we eventually found each other inside this maze. Once we congregated, one hostel mate turns and says, “James, have you met our friend’s penis?” I turned to look at our other hostel-mate, a cool guy from New York City, and did not expect the enormity of the situation.

It was so big I literally forgot what we were talking about at that moment. Men… we’re so visual! It was a bonding moment, for sure!

This place also welcomes massive amounts of group fun. Follow the sounds of the moans. Maybe, you’ll hear some thrusting noises coming from a dark corner. Lots of guys will congregate where the action is happening.

Men are so visual that hearing the signs of sexuality will turn them on. All they need is that extra push of desire to turn the entire room into a sexual fantasy. If you’re looking for that fantasy to come true. Come to this room.

Sundays are the best time to come. It’s the most popular day. I later went on Tuesday evening. There was a good crowd but not as good as Sundays. Also, Tuesday’s crowd was a little standoffish.

To my surprise, many of the men are lean and muscular. My hostel mates and I were impressed by the good looks of the Berlin crowd.

If it’s one thing I learned coming to Der Boiler is how gifted German men are in the reproductive area (if you know what I mean.)

When’s the Best Time to Go to Der Boiler? SUNDAY AFTERNOON!

I first went Sunday afternoon. The line was out the door, which made me nervous. What should I expect? Are the men nice? Do they keep the facilities clean? More importantly, how does it compare to other saunas I’ve been to? I had questions for days. However, only I could answer these questions.

Why Sundays? Men come here after a hard weekend of bar hopping, club dancing, and other incredibly intense activity in Berlin, like the 24-hour hookup spot Bull. This place is a must everyone on a Sunday afternoon.

Hygiene Stations at Der Boiler

If you’re a bottom like me, then it’s important to know that Der Boiler has hygiene stations. So if you’re coming from sightseeing with your friends and didn’t have a chance to douche at your hotel, just know there are douche rooms near the showers and by the massive steam room.

The Dark Maze Behind the Private Cabins

I just returned from Berlin (I went in October 2022) and decided to see if I missed anything.

There’s an entire dark maze where you can get it on near the back behind the private cabins. Although I went on a busy day, it wasn’t used as much as I thought, but I managed to play with several hung dudes. It’s a great place to find a good nook and gather a few hot guys for a spa day (that’s what I call Sundays in Berlin: spa day)!

The line is out the door on Sundays…

The facilies at der boiler are defunately excellent and the place is clean. I was also on a sunday afternoon, but was slightly disappointed. The maze at the steam room is a cool idea. But as i navigated it and found a right person to play with, i had to usually leave after several minutes of playing as it got too hot for me. There was a painful choice for me – either not to cum because i like a bit longer sessions or cum within 2-3 minutes of the action : -))) And there was no other good place where guys would get together to play. A darkroom was always occupied by older crowd and cruising around in the rooms’ area was not too exciting. Plus a lot of guys were mostly just chilling and talking. And it’s totally fine by me, but it just doesn’t add a sexual atmosphere). I doubt i will visit it again on my next trip. But i would advise this place to just enrich your overall gay sauna experience.

Good points. I also found that the ppl talking near the pool was a little off putting, it made it seem more casual. But loved the steam room. I think i have more tolerance for the heat than most ppl though. Thanks for the comment =).
