I’ve flown British Air many times. Usually, I fly in coach. However, this trip was canceled and moved three times because of the pandemic. Therefore, my partner and I realize maybe we should upgrade our vouchers and get a Club World seat. I have to say, it was well worth it.
The Pods
This British Air 777 has excellent pods. It contained a great flat-screen TV with many movies to choose from. I’d like to think I fly so much it feels like I’ve seen most of the movies on here. In reality, quarantine has me binging on Netflix and HBO Max for too long.
Regardless, the movie selection is plentiful.
The seats are comfortable yet firm. These pods turn into beds nicely.
You are given a bed pad for your seat to make it cushier and a thick comforter. However, they kept the plane at a warm temperature. It was so warm I didn’t need to blanket.
The weird thing is that this plane did not contain air vents, well, at least not in Club World. So, I was hot the entire flight to London.
Like many pods in business classes on other airlines, they give you plenty of compartments to store your belongings in. You have three on your side and an open compartment near the footrest.
I found the table a little tricky, though. It’s tucked under the TV with a lever that was not as intuitive as you think.
However, after fidgeting with it for a few minutes, I discovered it actually has two levers.
The best thing about the pod in Club World is that it contained a door. So you could close yourself off from the isle. It’s freaking fantastic.
However, they keep it opened and locked during takeoff. I tried closing it shortly after we reached a certain altitude, but I had no idea what I was doing and finally felt stupid and gave up.
A few minutes later, the flight attendant came over and unlocked it for me. I shut the door immediately.
This 777 also had a door in between pods. So if you’re seated next to a stranger, you can close the middle partition, and you’ll feel very private.
I loved every bit of this experience.
The Service
Upon sitting down, we were given a pre-departure drink. I chose the champagne. They also took my coat to hang it in an appropriate closet.
Beverage service came about an hour later, and I chose a Tanqueray and Tonic. They provided my Gin and Tonic on a cute little tray with a napkin and a bag of snacks. It was so cute.
The Food in Club World
The food was fantastic. I chose the Buttered Chicken, which came with plenty of rice. It was very flavorful. Pretty impressive British Air. I like this.
It also came with a side salad, some cheese and jam, and a chocolate mousse for dessert. Everything was tasty and so filling. I was uncomfortably full.
On the other hand, my partner said he got the pasta option, and it was so small he wished he had a snack before the flight.
Although the flight from LAX to LHR is around nine hours long. I managed to sleep for four of those hours.
Breakfast
Since this was a long overnight flight, we were also given breakfast. Now, breakfast was a little more basic.
I got eggs, jam, and sausage. It came with a couple of sautéed mushrooms and a steamed tomato.
You also got a croissant and a petite yogurt parfait.
It was good but nothing out of the ordinary.
The Flight Attendants
All of our flight attendants were young. Like, in their 20s young. But everyone tried their hardest to give great service.
Although one flight attendant sang loudly as she worked the flight. Perhaps she’s got a side gig as a singer.
It didn’t bother me because I put in my earplugs and eye mask and drifted off to sleep. But I noticed other people giving her the side-eye.
Although I should’ve taken a blind selfie. I felt like a mummy with my eye mask, facemask, and earplugs.
One of the funniest moments of the trip was right when we began our descent. The flight attendants couldn’t find my coat. They scrambled, looked everywhere, and finally came over to apologize.
“It couldn’t have walked away. It’s still on this plane,” said one flight attendant. Then finally, they found it, and all was well.
Even though it wasn’t a big deal, they handled the situation very well.
Let’s break it down:
British Airways Club World in a 777 is pretty amazing. Especially now that they have a door to your pod, it kind of turns into a suite.
The Buttered Chicken is incredible. But breakfast was just okay.
Although one of the negatives was that it was too hot to be comfortable.
Do I recommend British Air Club World-class? Yes. If you can book it, give it a go. You won’t regret it. I think it’s a great way for longer flights.
Even if you’re traveling with friends or loved ones, it is a good way to get some privacy before you’re stuck with them on your vacation.
