Tegal International Airport in Berlin is Permanently Closed

As of October 31, 2020, Tegal (TXL) permanently closed its doors. Although it may seem shocking, it had nothing to do with the covid situation happening around the globe.

Tegal closed to make room for their new airport, Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER.)

I loved TXL. My first Berlin memories started at Tegal. However, I have to say that getting to and from TXL was slightly more difficult than Schönefeld airport (SFX.)

Getting to Schoenberg airport is very intuitive. You can read more about Schönefeld airport here. However, I should also mention that now that BER is open, SFX is also closed. However, SFX is said to reopen in the not too distant future.

Times, They Have Changed

It sounds crazy that Berlin would close all of its major airports in the city. However, their new airport is literally next door to SFX, which means it shouldn’t be difficult to make your way there.

How to get to and from BER (Berlin Brandenburg Airport)

Berlin Brandenburg Airport is well connected. In fact, its more connected than their previous two airports.

So, if you’re wondering how to get to and from Berlin Brandenburg Airport, you’re in luck because I will tell you.

The Airport Express and regional trains are said to run four times an hour from Terminal 1 to Berlin Central Station (Berlin Hauptbahnhof located at Hauptbahnhof, Europaplatz 1, 10557 Berlin, Germany.) The S9 and S45 S-bahn trains travel from T1/T2 and T5 into Berlin city center.

Apart from public transportation, there is also a taxi stand as well as an area for Ubers and rideshares. If you’re interested in more information about getting to and from BER, check out the details on their website here.

Don’t worry, next time I’m in Berlin, I will give you a more personal account of what is where and how I did it so you can learn from it and take that information with you. Although, for now, I hope this helps.
