Secret Travel Days with Lower Prices and Less Crowds!

If you’re looking for advice on when to travel, you might be a little disappointed by this answer. Disappointing but 100% worth it. The best day to travel (or I should say ‘days’) is on any holiday. No, not around the holidays. On the holiday itself. The best day to travel is on any given holiday. That’s because people who travel to meet their family travel a few days before and after to spend time with their family on that day.

Any airport will look like a ghost town on those days. There are no lines. No traffic. Lounges and waiting rooms will have plenty of seats. No kids screaming at the top of their lungs. That will pick up the following day.

Considering me and my partner view holidays as ‘just another day,’ we don’t care about flying on those days. We also know it’s the best day to travel.

Before I continue here is a tip:

Always travel on July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, December 25th, New Years Eve (not New Years Day) and any other major holiday because everyone is already at their destination.

The best day to travel is on an actual holiday!

This time around was no different. On Christmas day we packed up, had a Christmas breakfast and lunch with friends and family and headed to the airport.

Even though it took an eternity to arrive in Quebec City, it almost felt like it was too easy to leave.

My partners aunt gave us a ride. The ride is about 15 minutes or less. As we pull up to Quebec City airport, my partners aunt hit a snow bank and her tire pops. Confused about what just happened, considering it was just a pile of snow we start to panic and plan a rescue immediately.

You don’t want to be out in 8 degree weather for too long. Your face starts to go numb in seconds. This environment is not for the living. If you’re a corpse, then no problem!

Security approaches my partners aunt and they help her fix the tire. As our panic begins to subside we get in line and proceed through security.

Quebec City airport (YQB) is tiny. It’s also mostly empty. As we enter, we dash straight to a lounge to relax and have a hot beverage before getting on a plane to a warmer climate. We are spending New Years in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

If my memory holds up, which on most accounts it doesn’t, I would say we had a connecting flight from Quebec City to Phoenix Sky Harbor, to Puerto Vallarta Mexico.

It was nice to know that we were going to leave the frigid cold. Holiday travels are so stressful. Not because of the family but because of other families. These people flock to the airport and clog the system.

The extreme climate of Quebec City and Montreal can have an impact on your transportation. People in the service industry start to get annoyed because of the hordes of people coming through. Even if you’re a good customer, they still treat you like dirt. Traveling anytime before or after an actual holiday is NOT fun.

However, all of this is over now. We are sitting in a lounge sipping some hot chocolate, watching the wind blow the snow to and fro and awaiting our flight to a tropic destination. I’m hoping this next half of our trip will be easier than the first.

This is Quebec City Airport during the holidays

I love coming to Canada. I especially love coming to Canada during the winter months because of the snow. Growing up in Los Angeles means snow is beautiful and amazing and different, but this trip took its toll.

I’m calling this my nightmare trip because the amount of annoyances and things that went wrong. If you want to start at the beginning click here. However, I do have to say I love spending time with my partners family. They are welcoming and warm-hearted and intelligent. Spending time with people like that is a blessing.

As we boarded our flight I could already feel the warm sun hitting my face. I could see the dew on my skin from the heat and humidity. I could hear the ice clinking inside my glass as I drink a cocktail while the waves thunder in the distance.

Puerto Vallarta here we come!

This is a picture I took in Puerto Vallarta the next day!

Let me break it down for you:

The best day to travel is:

    • July 4th
    • Thanksgiving Day
    • December 25th
  • New Years Eve (not New Years Day)

Also, prices plummet because no one actually travels on these days. The airlines increase prices before these days, but they go down on the day of the holiday. It’s a win-win situation.

“This environment is not for the living. If you’re a corpse, then no problem!” I’m dying laughing.

I live in Milwaukee so I’m used to below zero temps and I’m not a corpse yet. LOL
