Quebec City a Winter Wonderland for Winter Lovers

We made it. Quebec City. It’s a beautiful city made even more beautiful with a layer of white fluffy snow on top of its medieval walls. This quaint city is our usual Christmas Destination. This year is no different. Even though it felt like an eternity to get here, I am glad to finally be at my destination. Quebec City is a winter wonderland.

The streets of Quebec City are old. The old city has a lot of amazing history. The walls of the fort still stand. There is even a cannon ball inside a tree, left from a battle hundreds of years ago.

During the winter months and especially Christmas time, the town puts Christmas decor throughout the city.

In Quebec City, you’ll see Xmas trees outside of each shop and mistletoe on the streets. They build outdoor skating rinks for people to skate on (yes for free.) Giant wreathes are placed outside department stores. The weather is frigid but the Christmas Spirit is warm and in full bloom. It’s the most Christamssy destination I’ve ever seen.

I Used to Hate Xmas

Every since I came to Quebec City for Christmas it has revived my Xmas spirit. I never enjoyed forced interactions with strangers or family for that matter. In fact, I often hated the thought of the holiday season coming around as I grew up. However, now that I’ve been to Canada (including Toronto and Montreal) I’ve found a lot of Xmas spirit. Perhaps it has nothing to do with the holiday but the surroundings. Quebec city will turn any “Gringe” into a fun Christmas-loving person. Quebec City is a winter wonderland.

I’m not going to get into our holiday celebrations and such… It’s a typical celebration with lots of food and family traditions. We eat raclette and pop some crackers. Our stomachs get too full and we have some delicious wine. A few times, we’ve even walked around the frigid cold weather.

The first time I was in Quebec City, I literally walked into a blizzard because I had never seen one in my life. As a LA native, weather phenomenon is rare (or pretty much non-existent.)

Here is a video of me just walking around the old part of town and checking out the beautiful fort and surroundings.

Ill get into Quebec City as a destination, in more depth, in the next blog post.
