Pavilion Hotel London a Quirky Hotel in London

Hi, I’m James, and I’m directionally challenged. I booked the Pavilion Hotel London (or as it’s called The Pavilion Fashion Rock N Roll Hotel) for a couple of main reasons. The first reason is that this is one of the quirky hotels in London, and I love quirky, odd, weird, different, and inexpensive. The second reason is it’s right near Paddington station. In other words, I should’ve been able to find it without fuss.

So, I typed “Pavilion Hotel London” into Google maps and it said it’s one mile from the station. About a 25 minute walk. When I get there, it’s a vacant building. It’s being renovated. It doesn’t have a sign. What the hell? The Google map above is the correct place. That’s where you should end up.

I Google map it again, just in case, and now maps tells me to walk 30 minutes back to Paddington station to the Pavilion Hotel London. No! Not happening. I Uber and get to the Pavilion Hotel promptly.

Essential Details

This quirky hotel in London is located at 34-36 Sussex Gardens, Hyde Park, London, England. You should save that address if you’re booking it. Google mapping it might take you the wrong direction. Make sure you use this address provided.

In terms of prices, it’s cheap. Each room has a different price. Although prices are subject to change with season and availability, I paid $120 per night. It’s cheap as far as London prices go.

The cheap prices and uniqueness attracted me for sure!

Is the Pavilion Hotel London Really a Quirky Hotel in London?

So, I get to my hotel and check-in. It’s cute. It’s quirky. It has floral and bird wallpaper!

There are victorian paintings on the wall. The staircases are narrow, and there are no elevators. The hotel is dark, dingy, and has a creepy vibe. I love it. The animal skulls on the walls are perfect. Watch out Pavilion Hotel. I’m moving in!

To answer the question, yes the Pavilion hotel is one quirky hotel in London and I am so excited to stay here.

The only thing that would make this hotel more quirky is if its haunted. But I’m glad it’s not. The last thing I need is a haunted London adventure.

The Pavilion Hotel London: The Room

Each room has a different name. My room is called Better Red than Dead. It’s red. It has red wallpaper. Red blackout drapes line the windows. The bed has red blankets and pillows. My chandelier has red crystals on it. There is also a painting of a boy holding a communist flag on the wall. I was looking for quirky hotels in London. I guess I found one!

The room and restroom

The room is tiny but it has everything you need. It’s equipped with antique-looking furniture. You have an old fashion vanity with what I call the “Samara” mirror. Samara is a character from the scary movie The Ring.

There is an antique chair lined with red tassels.

what is this?
What is this? Is this a chair?

And then there is this! What is this? Is this considered another chair? A baby chair? I don’t know. You tell me. It’s red though.

There is a wardrobe and a drawer. Although, I’ve had trouble opening the wardrobe. It’s not a big deal, I never use them anyway.

The room also comes with packets of tea, instant coffee, and an electric kettle to boil water.

I’ve only found two outlets in the room though. They’re both under the desk which makes my water boiling more of an adventure than I would like but at least I have them.

I’m not sure if all restrooms are this small at the Pavilion Hotel London but it’s basically a closet with a toilet a sink and a shower.

The toilet doesn’t flush so great. It flushes but not every time.

Only one bar of soap!

The water pressure in the shower is minimal. It will take you forever to shower.

The one thing I thought they skimped on is their toiletries. You get one tiny bar of soap and that’s it. I hope you don’t like the smell of shampoo because you don’t get any!

Other Features You Might Enjoy About the Pavilion Hotel London

Don’t despair we’re not finished reviewing the Pavilion Hotel London yet! You also get a TV, a fan and a landline!

My room has a small window that overlooks the neighborhood and its cute buildings. The light comes in nicely when you open the drapes.

The bed is a ‘full size’ but it’s enough for me. It’s definitely too small for two people.

Although all of this is great, they also have a free continental breakfast. Every morning they leave a tray by your front door with a waffle, an oatmeal bar, a box of chocolate milk and orange juice. If you’re interested in tea or coffee, you have that available in your room.

It made for the perfect breakfast. I ate it right up.

Dirty, Filthy, Porno Disco

This quirky hotel in London has themed rooms. Mine… Well, I suppose you could say it’s communist themed. But everyone else thinks it looks like a victorian whore house, in a good way. I love it.

However, since each room is different, each room also has a different name.

One of the best and quirky things about this hotel is their over the top decor. You have the Casablanca Nights room with Moroccan and animal decor. There’s Monochrome Marylin, a room that’s 70s Hollywood porno set inspired. Perhaps you’ll love the colorful and funky vibe of Honky Tonk Afro. There’s an Indian inspired room and even one room called Green With Envy which is kind of like my room except green.

The Pavilion Hotel has been in magazines, newspapers, and fashion photoshoots. I mean who wouldn’t want this as their backdrop? It’s highly inspirational.

Porn spreads with ladies showing their lady parts have been photographed here.

This hotel is so unique, I’m glad I found it. Most importantly I’m glad I can show you guys something different for your next trip.

What’s Near the Pavilion Hotel London?

Many people come to London expecting a hotel near Big Ben, or the London Eye or any of the London tourist attractions. So where is the Pavilion Hotel located?

The Pavilion Hotel London is five minutes from Paddington Station. If you take the Heathrow Express from the airport, it’s the station you end up in. It’s convenient if you’re a business traveler and need to get to a hotel as soon as possible.

This hotel is right in the middle of the city. The most convenient thing is the train station. This is a central hub and it goes pretty much anywhere you need to go.

There are no major tourist attractions near the hotel but there are many great and popular neighborhoods a couple of train stops away.

For example, Oxford Circus is a couple of stops away. You can shop all day in this district. Walking distance from here is Soho, a hip and gay neighborhood with many great restaurants and party venues.

Central London is so compact, you can make it anywhere easily. If you’re trying to figure out how to get around London I’ve made a blog post on how to do it. It’s pretty easy. Click here to check out my post and get a map of the London Tube stations.

More About The Pavilion Hotel London

The Pavilion Hotel London isn’t a high-end hotel. It doesn’t have a gym or spa. You won’t find a restaurant inside. What it lacks in amenities it makes up for it in quirkiness. To be quite honest, I’m spending most of my time looking at sites and checking out the city.

Although I have to say upfront, I am loving this hotel. It really is a very quirky hotel in London.
