I’m a sucker for Chinese food. I eat Chinese food in Los Angeles on a weekly basis. Therefore, being in China is heavenly to me. So much great food and so little time.
While we were enjoying our free meals of noodles and dim sum at The Ritz Carlton in Kowloon, I really wanted to experience a dumpling house. Luckily we had a Michelin book of every Michelin star restaurant in Hong Kong. We read and found Nanjing Jingling Dumpling House, which was about a mile from our hotel.
Unfortunately, trying to book a reservation was nearly impossible. The restaurant employees spoke little to no English. At this point we took the elevator to the club lounge and had the concierge/butler book a table for two for the night.
We booked our table and had our private chauffeur drive us out in his Tesla. Well I suppose it’s not our private chauffeur, it’s The Ritz’ driver (but I do like the sound of that.)
Nanjing Jingling Dumpling House is not a fancy restaurant. It’s a basic restaurant with
white walls and fluorescent lighting. It was full of locals. That’s a sign that the food is good. If the locals are loving it, you know it’s a good place to eat.
We walked in the restaurant and sat down promptly. The waiters came by quickly to take our order. We ordered many dumpling and steam buns to try. We got some scallion pancakes as well. I wanted to try more things but we can only eat so much!
The food came out right away. I was eager to try it all. The dumplings were good and so were the steamed pork buns. But the best were the Truffle Dumplings. The truffle soup dumplings were bursting with amazing flavor. The soup oozed out of these dumplings and filled your mouth as you bit into them. The flavor, washed over your mouth and it almost felt like the dumpling melted in your mouth. These dumplings are by far the best dumplings I’ve ever tried.
I wish I could say more… but honestly eating is believing.
Let me break it down for you:
