Mansion Merida Hotel is probably the best hotel I’ve stayed in a LONG time. Its located in Merida, Yucatan on 59th street.
It’s one block from the historic central square. This makes Mansion Merida Hotel the perfect place to stay.
If you’re interested in a better location (on a budget), check out Hostal Catedral. This hostel is located across the street from the central cathedral, making it an even better location.
Getting back to Mansion Merida Hotel
Mansion Merida Hotel is stunning. You’re greeted with a double staircase as you make your way to the check-in office.
The check-in process, my least favorite part of the hotel experience, was okay. Although they greeted us nicely and gave us a welcome beverage, we waited about 15 minutes before they attended us.
However, this gave us a chance to soak up the beautiful decor inside a stunning courtyard. Mansion Merida Hotel truly is a mansion you’re staying in. It’s not figurative or metaphorical. This is a mansion.
Although I cannot wait for a more futuristic approach where we don’t have to deal with a human for checking in, I just prefer a swift and no-hassle entrance.
Do you prefer the self-check-in approach that’s currently becoming popular or concierge service check-in?
The Rooms at Mansion Merida Hotel
As you would expect, each room is different. Our room is a meticulously decorated, double-height, grand room.
The wallpaper is not actual wallpaper. Its art. Someone actually painted the decor on the walls.
The tiles on the floor are elaborate and beautiful.
The doors and window panels are classic, historical, and unlike anything I’ve encountered before.
The benches are classic and perfect for sitting, drinking your tea, and perhaps gossiping about the stallion next door. Yes, I felt like a proper aristocratic woman from the 18th century.
The antique decor elevated the experience. The telephone was a rotary phone and antique drawers, for example.
You were also given the tastiest of chocolate chip cookies upon entering your room and fresh fruit in case you wake up in the middle of the night hungry.
The mini-fridge was stocked with regular mini-bottles of booze and some champagne. There was also a basket of snacks and sparkling water. However, none of this was free.
The Restroom
The restroom is nice, but I can’t say much about it. It’s a restroom, after all, and I’m not spending a lot of time here.
The shower is enormous. You could have a party here if you wanted. The water pressure is strong, which I enjoyed.
Although I was a little disappointed, it didn’t have a double sink. I mean, what do you mean I have to share my sink with my partner? Would you rather have one or two sinks?
Nevertheless, you had shampoo, body wash, soap, towels, extra toilet paper and a robe.
The restroom also included a hairdryer and hotel slippers. Don’t you love hotel slippers? It’s a touch I truly love.
The Amenities at Mansion Merida Hotel
The breakfast consisted of traditional food from the Yucatan. I tried as much of it as possible. Everything was perfectly made, just like mom makes at home! I loved it all.
The bar is nice. I managed to try a Gin and Tonic at one point, and even though it was a good drink, the bar wasn’t as impressive as the hotel itself.
They served small dishes at the bar as well, in case you’re coming to check it out.
Mansion Merida Hotel is big. It’s so big, it has two courtyards.
If you continue walking towards the back, you’ll notice the pool and gym is within this courtyard.
The pool is petite but cute.
The gym is also petite, but it has everything you need. It also has a restroom.
I didn’t work out while I was here, but it became clear that people didn’t use the gym often.
The Decor
I loved the classic decor of the Mansion Merida Hotel. It’s filled with beautiful paintings and sculptures of the world.
Mixed with colonial busts and Persian tapestries, the Mansion Merida Hotel feels like a worldly place to stay.
For around $150 or so, you can feel like Laura Croft in Tomb Raider staying at an exotic locale on your way to execute your mission.
