Before Designing Life and before I starting making videos on Youtube, I remember being desperate. Not only did I not have time for vacations, they wouldn’t approve my holidays even if I submitted them six months early. I flew to Hawaii for a wedding, and I was given a tough time about it. So in a desperate struggle to mix up my life, I decided to do the one thing I could think to get away for a weekend. I became a jet setter for the day.
This trip changed my perspective and brought me closer to the life of travel that I love.
Let Me Show You What I did to be a Jet Setter for a Day
My partner and I (back when we first started dating) decided we should look for a trip to take. But with my limited vacation, we began to wonder how short this trip needs to be. Should this be a weekend getaway? How about a day trip? How far can you go in a day? All of these questions ran through my mind as we planned.
I get online and start looking at destinations. Maybe we can drive somewhere nearby and do a “staycation.” That might be a simple option.
Then, I get a phone call. It’s my partner.
“I found an incredible fare. We should think about booking it.” He tells me. “Get on your computer. I’ll show you where to find it.”
So I get on my computer and plug in the dates times, airport codes, and everything you need to look for a plane ticket on the appropriate websites.
“This plane ticket is for Nicaragua?” I ask him.
“Yes. Its a mistake fare. It’s only $150 round trip.” Let’s go have dinner in Nicaragua.” He tells me. Do you need time to think about it?”
So I put on my thinking cap. I bite my lip and think really hard for a second. “But I can’t get off work for vacation,” I say as I remember this fact.
“Then we can go on Saturday, have dinner. Stay the night and come back on Sunday. Your job doesn’t care what you do on your weekend.”
He had a good point. Let’s do it! I grab my credit card and click that ‘Buy Now’ button.
So We Went to Nicaragua for Dinner
The flight is about 7 hours one way. We stayed across the street from the airport in Managua.
We arrive at the airport and walk across the street and check into our hotel. This hotel is cute, with many open-air areas. It’s a perfect Central American hotel experience. Luckily it also has a restaurant.
So we have some dinner and eat some good Nicaraguan food.
After dinner, we located two gay bars, just a 20-minute taxi ride away from our hotel. It was called the Hollywood Club or something. I thought it was funny because I’m from LA. So let’s see how Hollywood this place is.
It turns out they’re very Hollywood because they didn’t let me in. They had a strict dress code. Since this was a one day trip, I only brought sandals because of the humid Central American weather.
Sandals are not allowed at this club. Therefore, we walked to another gay bar. This bar was across the street. It felt run down and shady. But, at least we had a tarp over our heads.
As we sipped our beer and we watched the rain come down, thick and heavy, I couldn’t help but think how incredible this moment really is.
The tropical rain, the lush vegetation, and the distinctive scenery made this a magical moment.
Suddenly, life becomes possible. Creativity gives way to possibilities. Who would have thought anyone would travel to a faraway land for the night, just for dinner and a beer? It’s pretty awesome, actually.
After our drink, we get a taxi back to the hotel.
Our flight to LA is at 5 am the next morning. Therefore, we wake up very early to walk across the street and back to the airport.
We get back Sunday evening before anyone even noticed we were gone.
This was a one of a kind jet setter experience.
With All That in Mind, What am I trying to Say?
What I’m trying to say is that this really isn’t a one of a kind experience. You, too, can become a jet setter. Even with that pain-in-the-buns job of yours, we can find you a jet setting experience you will love.
In other words, I am going to find cheap flights for you to book. I’ll search for useful resources and apps we are going to need. Apart from technology, I want to find excellent gay venues, festivals, bars/restaurants to try for the day.
I want you to become a jet setter. I want to hear your stories about how you flew to a destination to shop for the day and come back. Why? Because it’s worth it. Life is full of possibilities, and I want to teach everyone that it’s possible.
So lets become jet setters in 2020.
2020 is our year! Let’s pack our bags!
Check out this YouTube video I made a while ago of some of the jet setting tips and tricks I will be focusing on in the future.
Let me break it down for you:
“Lets Jet” is going to be a new segment on my blog where I search for cheap flights, excellent deals, and mistake fares for people to fly.
I also want to look for awesome gay bars, festivals, restaurants we can do for a day and come back. Let’s live life to the fullest.
So keep checking Designing Life for more blog posts on how to jet-set and where to jet off to.
I will also be going on these shorter trips, reviewing, and writing about my experiences just so you know how it can all go down.
