Cape Town Helicopter Tour Review | The Sky is the Limit

If you’re like me and like the idea of solitary confinement, or you know, just being alone for as long as possible. If you dont like waiting in queues or being annoyed by the masses. Then perhaps a Cape Town Helicopter Tour of the city is best. I mean, you’re in the sky, hundreds of feet from anyone, except maybe the pilot and one or two other people. Besides, everyone is minding their own business because they’re “ahhhing” and “oohhing” at the same amazing views as you. It’s perfect!

I took this image from the helicopter!

The Cape Town Helicopter tour starts at the V&A water front which means you have to get there first. Although, impressively, they offer chauffeur service to and from your hotel. It’s optional and worth it. It’s easy and quick.

This particular helicopter tour is $159 USD per person. I purchased it through Viator.com. Viator is a website I’ve learned to trust with big tours like this.

Upon arriving they weigh you and show you a safety video. There’s only one other person besides me and my partner in this group.

The helicopter is small.

The other gentleman in our party offered me the copilot seat, which I initially rejected out of politeness. However, after he insisted I decided to take it. I sat next to Ryan, the pilot. The exterior is mostly glass which means any view is a good view. My partner and the guy from London sat in the back… with the chickens. Just kidding, this helicopter is too small for chickens!

Cape Town Helicopter Tour Flight

This tour takes you from the water front, around Camps Bay. You get to see the 12 Apostles and some inner cities. You fly by the infamous ship wreck beach. You’re even able to see the ship wreck from the helicopter.

You also fly around Table Mountain and if there is time, over to Simons Town. This time around, there’s a military aviation training in Simons Town and all other flights are not allowed to enter this air space.

However, that did not take away from the experience.

Each view is breathtaking. The great pilot dove towards the water, weaving in and out in sharp turns to catch incredible pods of whales swimming below us. His quick maneuvering made my stomach drop each time. Although, I have to say it was worth it!

The one thing I thought of as he navigated the open sky’s and dropped several feet in seconds to get another beautiful glimpse of the whales is my mother. My mother, who I’ve always wanted to take on a helicopter is scared of heights. If this particular flight was her first, she may have thrown up all over the interior and never flown again. I never felt unsafe, but for a first-timer, it might be somewhat scary to experience as he turned the flight in 360 degree angles each time in each imaginable direction.

The flight is narrated by the pilot. He’s well versed in the city and points out amazing facts and sites throughout Cape Town.

The entire Cape Town Helicopter Tour is about 20 minutes long but you see Cape Town in all its beauty from an incredible angle.

I got many incredible pictures and some great video as well. Now, the only thing missing is my own helicopter.

After the ride is over, we got back to our driver who took us directly to our hotel. The Cape Town Helicopter tour is quick, easy, incredible and it leaves you plenty of time in your day to do other things.

Let Me Break It Down For You:

Cape Town Helicopter Tour is $159 per person.

It lasts about 20 min.

It’s a narrated flight.

It’s absolutely breathtaking.

Do I recommend it? 100%. It’s as incredible as the skys are blue. The oceans and its creatures are beautiful from up here. The whales are clear from above. I highly recommend a helicopter tour of this beautiful city.
