The city of Love is home to many amazing places. Singles and honeymooners alike flock to this city to find romance. However, the history of this beautiful city is darker than people think.
Here are 4 creepy things every thrill-seeker must-see in Paris! Not only are these creepy but some of these are free while the rest are cheap! Enjoy
1) Père Lachaise Cemetery
Located on the outskirts of Paris, Pere Lachaise Cemetery is the final resting place of The Doors lead singer Jim Morrison.
This giant cemetery is like a small city of the dead. Each row of mausoleums has a street name to help you find your way around. The tombs are old, gothic, and beautiful. You can spend an entire day just looking at the graves and snapping pictures, which is what I did.
I also had another goal in mind. I wanted to pay a visit to the singer, Jim Morrison. However, the cemetery is so big you often need a map to navigate around. Luckily for me, my awful hostel (Aloha Hostel) had one. Therefore me and Dan decided to venture out and pay our respects.
I was surprised by how many people were at this grave. At least 10 others were there in gothic attire, paying respect to this tortured artist.
This cemetery makes my list for most beautiful yet creepy. A must for every creepy thrill seeker.
2) The Cathedral of Notre Dame
The Cathedral of Notre Dame is a gothic relic of the days of yore. Its architecture is
beautiful. It’s beautiful during the day, outside and inside. However, at night, its lit so nicely it will run chills down your spine.
The outside of the Cathedral is surrounded by gargoyles that spit rainwater away from the structure.
This Cathedral is worth a visit, but if you’re like me and hate crowds, it might not be the best attraction to visit.
Here’s a tip:
Go at night. There are 99% fewer people, which is a plus. On the downside, you can’t go inside because it’s closed.
3) The Catacombs
If you thought Père Lachaise Cemetery was big, wait till you see The Catacombs. The Catacombs is the worlds largest grave and its located underground. This mass grave site spans a total of 200 miles with over one million bodies buried here. Today, there is a one-mile stretch open to the public.
The ambiance is dark and creepy and you can touch the skeletal remains at will. Be warned, done take a wrong turn or you will surely get lost.
Check out my full review of the Catacombs here.
4) The Pantheon Crypt
Not just a beautiful building in the Latin Quarter but a crypt of the dead. Famous Parisians lay here to rest and statues of beauty are all around. This great but creepy place is a must. However, it is a museum so if you’re not into museums you may not like it. Although, I have to say Crypts are interesting enough to spark my dark imagination.
Let me break it down for you:
