Quarantine is a bitch. But with a little technology and some research, we can say goodbye to the quarantine blues. So, let’s indulge in street culture from around the globe. Here are 10 incredible cities with 10 astonishing street art murals from around the world you can do from your couch.
Let’s thank our friend Google who went to all of these locations and created a Google street view of these 10 incredible cities.
The great thing about this is, even though you’re moving around cyberspace on your own, Google won’t let you stray off the path. So, you won’t miss any piece of art or get lost.
Which Cities are Included?
Buenos Aires, Argentina
This mural by Sixe and Chu, Canard and Castillo, resides in the neighborhood of Chacarita. The painting itself was done by artists that belong to the art collective of graffitimundo.
Graffitimundo is a nonprofit that promotes and educates the residents of Buenos Aires on the culture of street art.
They currently work with museums, charities, universities, the media, and thousands of individuals who want to learn about the street art culture in Argentina.
This online tour covers a couple of streets. But you can do it right from the comfort of your bed.
Take that, quarantine.
Melbourne, Australia
Blender Lane is a famous alleyway in Melbourne where you can find street art, stencils, and spray paint on every inch of wall space.
It’s maintained by a local street collective invert and deansunshine. Together they provide documentation of the fantastic street art in Melbourne and create genre-defying art. They also specialize in art spaces and events featuring local artists.
Perth, Australia
In Perth Australia, in the parking lot off Murray street, there’s an incredible graffiti mural by FORM.
FORM is an artistic non-profit that nurtures creativity within the city. They believe that a city with street art will make a positive change within the community.
Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon, Portugal is home to many incredible street artists. Some have made a name for themselves around the world. But, on the wall of the Psychiatric Hospital, there is a half-mile stretch with twisted and incredible street art.
This mural is created by the Galeria de Arte Urbana or Urban Art Gallery.
Baltimore, Maryland
Station North Arts and Entertainment Inc. created a street art event in 2012 called Open Walls Baltimore. They chose incredible artists from around the world to create murals in specific parts of the city. Although these pieces of street art ranged from installations to performances, Google Street View is allowing you to view the art virtually.
London, England
London is creating a legal street movement with the Global Street Art collective. They have a significant collection you can view online. However, in this case, you can see this mural on Redchurch Street in London.
So, if you’ve ever wanted to check out the streets of London, there’s no better time than now. The only better thing than virtual reality is actual reality. So, check this out online and set a goal to see it in person.
Giardini Naxos, Italy
In a small walkway, through a few buildings, is a street called Mala Erba. This quaint area is home to beautiful street art by an art group that calls themselves Emergence.
Although this mural isn’t as big as some of the other ones on this virtual reality art tour, it’s nice to see some Italian streets during our quarantine.
Peru
There’s a building in the streets of Peru with a mural that’s 137 feet tall by 170 wide. It’s enormous. However, this is the only piece in this street art tour. Nevertheless, you can still beat those quarantine blues and head out into the world without leaving your couch.
Malmo Sweden
Malmo Sweden is one train ride away from Copenhagen. Two incredible cities I’ve already visited.
Put Malmo on your travel list while you visit Copenhagen. And, wet that travel appetite by taking this virtual street art tour during your quarantine hours.
Rome Italy
My favorite virtual street art tour is the Rome, Italy tour. Its located inside a building that looks like an old abandoned warehouse. Each room has a different feel, and the art is magnificent. In any case, it will keep you busy, you’ll indulge in some street art culture, and you’ll beat those quarantine blues.
Let me break it down for you:
So how can you do these street art virtual tours? Head over to the Googles art and culture website and start your tour. Here is the street art virtual tour site in case you need it.
If you rather do it on your phone, download the Google Art & Culture app. This app has many incredible virtual art tours to get that art fix.
