This was a quick weekend getaway. Although we managed to pack in several things. We had a fancy dinner at the Queensyard. We saw The Cher show…Ate some delicious Chinese food and saw The Vessel!
The Vessel. This gorgeous new structure in the Hudson Yards is making tourists go gaga. It’s tall, dark, it’s definitely handsome and one hundred percent Instagrammable. But is it a giant tourist trap, or should you really check it out?
This beautiful structure looks like a giant bee hive and it glows like a shinny new toy. In order to see it you have to reserve a time slot on their website and get a ticket. You can get them here. Don’t worry it’s free, which makes it even better.
This entire section of the Hudson Yards is new. There’s a new mall, hotels, courtyards and a new art gallery opening soon.
The Vessel can also be accessed by The High Line. The High Line is a repurposed elevated train track that runs through the city. It’s now a pedestrian walkway. It goes through the Village, The Meat Packing district and ends at the Hudson Yards. If you haven’t walked The High Line yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a little like the pedestrian walkways in Tokyo or Hong Kong. It’s just as busy too.
So Is The Vessel a Tourist Trap?
No. It’s pretty awesome. Yes, there are lots of people. Before getting my ticket I thought we had to purchase them. The fact that it’s basically a giant work of art you can walk on makes it amazing. It’s not every day you see something so cool.
It’s science fiction meeting the future!

More About The Vessel
One thing you should know is that its name is temporary. Although many people want to call it The Shawarma after the giant piece of meat on a stick.
It’s 16 stories tall. It’s basically a set of honey comb stairs that interlock with each other. You can climb all the way up for a total of 2,500 steps.
Put this on your schedule next time you’re in New York City. Then you can take a walk on The High Line or eat at amazing restaurants like we did. Right across the vessel, inside the mall is a new restaurant called Queensyard. It’s fancy British food with a spectacular view of our new friend, The Vessel.

The Vessel is free but you have to get a ticket and time slot on their website.
It’s amazing.
It looks futuristic.
Is it worth it? Yes. It’s incredible.
