3 Incredibly Unique & Edgy Art Stores in San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel De Allende in Mexico is very cute. But if you know me, you’ll understand that cute means nothing if it’s not edgy, weird, or perhaps taboo. And I heard San Miguel has a thriving art scene.

So, I took it upon myself to discover some incredible, unique, and edgy art galleries where you can buy something unique for your unique personality.

Here are a few edgy art stores that fall into that category.

1) Prison Art

As you could imagine, Prison Art is an edgy art store that puts the weird and unusual in your face. What makes Prison Art better than I imagined is that it’s not just great artwork in nice frames. Here, they’ve put their art on shoes, hats, clothing, and accessories.

I want this satchel!

You can come here and purchase a crazy pair of shoes you’ll never see anyone wearing. It’s a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art! How fantastic is that?

The art looks handmade, spooky, weird yet impressive. It’s a style that’s not as polished as museum art. You can see the grit and emotion of the artist.

I love Prison Art. But, I must say, it’s not unique to San Miguel de Allende. Prison Art is actually a chain that’s established itself in the many art capitals of the world.

It’s so great its clothing and accessories are considered designer attire. In other words, they’re expensive. But, you’ll love it.

Check out their website for more information: https://www.prisonart.com.mx/

2) Laddu

Laddu is part of a larger “concept house” in San Miguel. This small shopping locale has several stores, from chocolate shops to champagne bars and regular clothing stores.

Its located inside Doce18 which is at Calle Relox 18, Colonia Centro, 33770, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.

Laddu is another incredible designer artist in San Miguel. They’ve created a brand that’s luxurious with a touch of the macabre.

You’ll find leather (I was told it’s not real leather), purses, wallets, handbags, and even laptop cases with beautifully embroidered or painted scarabs and sometimes skulls.

I love my new laptop case!

While I was here, I fell in love with a grey snakeskin (yes, not real snakeskin) laptop case with a blue embroidered skull.

The color contrast makes it pop, but the edginess of a symbol of death is perfect for my style.

I highly recommend taking a look at Laddu next time you’re in town.

3) The Shop, Art of Living

The Shop is probably the best art store I’ve ever seen. It contains incredibly edgy art for everyone.

These unique pieces of art all make a statement. You’ll find works from Alfredo Sanchez, who uses incredible color in his paintings as well as his photography.

Alfredo Sanchez collaborates with many artists. He also showcases these artists within The Shop.

Other famous street artists also sell their work here. There are many freakishly amazing works by Kaws.

Kaws artwork.

You’ll find colorful and twisted pop art. Perhaps you’ll enjoy an enamel skull pin for your jacket.

Or maybe you want to make a statement and take home Ronaldo as Jesus bleeding from his crown of thorns.

Everything I saw in here made my jaw drop. There’s only one small problem. These unique pieces of art have high prices. However, if I had the money, I would buy several.

Sorry for the bad picture. It doesn’t do it justice. 🙁

But they have prints for everyone’s budget. I purchased something from Alfredo Sanchez for my house in Mexico.

Next time you’re in San Miguel de Allende, come check this place out.

Alfredo Sanchez has a website, but The Shop itself does not. Nevertheless, you can find it at Cuna de Allende 11, Zona Centro, Centro, 37700 San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.

These are the few wild art stores I saw while I was in town. I highly recommend them. Just don’t spend all your money in one place. You’ll love everything.

San Miguel de Allende is cute, but the weird and edgy art galleries make it worth visiting!
