A Gay, Unique, San Francisco Itinerary for Jet Setters!

And for the next jet-setting trick, I give you cheap airfares to San Francisco, California (SFO)… From… Both… Coasts. Yes, my fellow jet setters, if you’re heading to San Francisco from either Los Angeles (LAX) or New York City (JFK) at the end of February, the rates are astonishingly low!

san-francisco-icon
The San Francisco pyramid building is so iconic!

This means we can have another jet-setting adventure for a day or maybe two. Either way, these fares are so low we can’t pass them up. Even with our 9-5 jobs.

So, I embedded a Kiwi widget below to show you the prices for January 29 through Feb 28th.

The widget below shows random times and dates within that time frame but feel free to play around with it. Don’t worry you won’t accidentally purchase it unless you actually want to.

Disclosure: Some links below are affiliate links. That means if you purchase a very inexpensive ticket using any of my links below, I’ll get a commission. Don’t worry, costs will always remain the same. I just aim for good prices for my readers!

Other Flights on Other Websites

I first found these fares on the Kiwi widget for Alaska airlines. So, I thought, this can’t be real.

Here is the screenshot of my search on Kiwi:

Then I discovered the flight from JFK to SFO:

Then I thought, the flight gods have to stop fu*king with me. Therefore, I decided to search Alaska directly on their website. This is what I discovered:

So now I’m like:

😱😱😱😱

And here we are! So whether you’re coming from Los Angeles or New York City, let’s plan a nice jet-setting adventure in San Francisco.

Let’s Get You to The Airport

If you’re in LA getting to the airport solo is not as difficult as you would expect. You can take the LA Metro, although it might take about 2 hours.

The most convenient way to get to LAX will also make you feel like a fancy jet setter. I often use a black car service like Blacklane or Groundlink.

Blacklane is awesome because a nice, sleek, upscale sedan or SUV, picks you up from any address you give them. The driver greets you in a suit and tie. They help you with your bags before opening the door for you and closing it as you enter the vehicle.

This type of treatment makes you feel special. Since businessmen and movie stars use this service, it can be a little pricey. I paid $120 one way. But no worries I got a coupon for you. It’s 20% off if you use 6NSRGNP9 at check out. Which takes it down to $90-something.

If that’s too expensive, you can always take an Uber or Lyft to the airport. They are still allowed to drop you off directly in front of the terminal at LAX. They’re just not allowed to pick you up from there.

Getting to JFK in NYC

Using public MTA in NYC is very efficient. Or you can use the faster LIRR (Long Island Rail Road.) But if you’re from NYC you already know this.

However, if you really want to feel like a jet setter I recommend taking a helicopter. Blade is a great app and you’ll get to JFK in 15 minutes!

NYC Blade Helicopter lounge

My flight from 30th street helipad station was $169 but I got a coupon for $50 off, which I can give you guys if you’re a first time Blade user. The coupon code is: JamesQ838 to get $50 off.

On a clear day, you can get the most amazing views from the helicopter. Its amazing, exhilarating and extremely efficient.

I highly recommend taking Blade helicopter services. Check out some of the pics I took from the helicopter below.

Things to do in San Francisco For a Day

You’ve purchased your plane ticket and you know how to get to the airport in style. Now, what are we going to do in San Francisco?

Well, there’s a lot of great stuff you can do. But if you’re more of a video person, check out the video I made with QVoiceNews a couple of years ago below. It will give you the gist of what can go down on any given day in this beautiful city.

San Francisco has an enormous gay scene. In fact, one four-minute video cannot fit all there is to do in gay San Francisco.

Some San Francisco Gay Bars

The Castro is San Francisco’s most popular and well-known gay area. It’s what people think of when they think gay San Francisco.

In the Castro, you’ll find an array of gay bars like 440s (the locals call it Daddy’s), Moby Dicks and the Pilsner Inn.

Castro is filled with history. It also includes the one and only LGBT History Museum. It’s small but it’s a massive educational and well-preserved part of history.

Although Castro is fantastic, there’s another area of San Francisco that holds the most decadent gay bars that people often overlook. That’s the SoMa area (South of Market Street).

SoMa is where the crazy and very mixed Folsom Street Fair takes place every year.

SF Eagle logo pic

It’s also the area I recommend the most.

In the SoMa area, you’ll find the SF Eagle. There’s Studs. Or for the more outgoing, grab a drink with a side of big DICK 🍆 at the Powerhouse. Then venture into A Hole in the Wall next door before stumbling into the Lone Star Saloon.

Although I haven’t written any reviews on the gay bars in San Francisco, I’ve had some sexy and decadent nights in this iconic city.

For a non-gay bar scene check out the gay “beach” otherwise known as Dolores Park. You can come here and tan on a clear day in your speedos or just hang out with friends. This park gets so busy it’s hard to find a place to sit.

Let’s Get Some at a Couple of SF Sex Clubs

The Power Exchange is a sex club in San Francisco. It’s the first x-rated club I ever went to. Although I was 21 years old I can’t really remember what this place was like.

They have a gay floor and a hetero floor.

Its also dark, creepy, sleazy and just the way it should be. Come here and get your freak-on.

There’s a couple more but you can’t do it all in 24 hours!

Free Awesome San Francisco Sites

There are many sites to see in this beautiful city. But, let me tell you a couple of free sights you shouldn’t miss if it’s your first time here.

We all know how iconic the Golden Gate Bridge is. This bridge is gorgeous and long and makes for some great iconic pictures. Blow up your Instagram with this awesome San Francisco landmark.

The Palace of Fine Arts often goes under the radar with tourists. That’s why it’s a must. It’s a beautiful structure to behold surrounded by lush vegetation and some cute ponds. Come here with some food and make a day of it.

The Sutro Baths used to be a luxurious privately owned saltwater pool in the late 1800’s. Now it’s abandoned and dilapidated. Nature has rightfully reclaimed this piece of land. And humanity has placed its urban art all over it. It makes for a very unique hike and an incredible sight to see. The Sutro Baths are eerie yet fun.

You’ll find the Sutro Baths on the west side of the city. In an area known as Lands End. I’ll embed a Google Map below just in case.

Alcatraz Abandoned Prison Tour

If you think I’m leaving you without a creepy yet fun tourist attraction, think again. I mean who doesn’t love abandoned places? Although it’s not really abandoned because you can take an official tour of Alcatraz with a guide.

This maximum-security prison is also home to some vicious ghosts. In other words, you might get lucky and get a demonic scratch as I did. Or maybe you’ll take a demon home.

You can take a regular tour or a sunset tour. However, the sunset tours get booked very fast. In any case, feel free to purchase a ticket on their official website if you’re interested.

Where to Stay in San Francisco

It comes to no surprise that San Francisco has many incredible places to stay. But this city is so expensive you might have to look around for a while before you find a bargain the might not be so great. So let me recommend a few places I’ve stayed in that will make you feel like that jet setting king that you are.

The Good Hotel

So how good is a hotel if it has to call itself a Good Hotel? Well, The Good Hotel is a cute, modern and it’s also sustainable. This hotel sits directly in front of the award-winning San Francisco Federal Building. Both buildings are modern, yet sustainable.

good-hotel-san-francisco-exterior

The Good Hotel is considered a green hotel because most of its furnishings were constructed out of recycled material. Even so, style was not sacrificed.

I used to stay here often because prices can be as low as $60 per night. Although, I should mention that prices vary wildly. However, if you travel at the right time it will be cheap and make for a cute weekend getaway.

Check out Booking.Com if you’re interested in booking it.

The Palace Hotel San Francisco

If you follow me on Instagram then you’ve probably seen my images of this hotel. I hate taking selfies but I tried so hard when I stayed here because this hotel is so gorgeous I could not stop myself.

The Palace Hotel San Francisco is not cheap though. It’s a luxury hotel with a beautiful restaurant. The interior of each room is chic yet classic.

The Pied Piper bar is always hopping and always ready to serve-up that Dirty Martini.

Prices for the Palace Hotel San Francisco can start around $200 and up.

The W Hotel

The W Hotel in San Francisco is pretty awesome. It has a good restaurant and a nightclub. Although you would think the nightclub will keep you up, but in reality, you can’t hear a thing from your room.

W-San-Francisco-front-desk

This chic hotel is right in the middle of the urban jungle that is San Fran and many of the rooms have gorgeous views.

W-San-Francisco-view

Although from the three hotels I’ve mentioned, this is my least favorite but only because I feel like they tried too hard to be modern. Otherwise, I think you’ll love it.

W-San-Francisco-rooms
I love their rooms. This is a corner room but I should mention I’ve also stayed in other rooms that are smaller.

Head over to Booking.com if you’re interested in booking it.

Hostels

pacific-tradewinds-hostel-beds

Pacific Tradewinds Hostel is located near Chinatown. This means you can get around easily.

This hostel has dorm beds starting at $37 per night. The reviews are also incredible.

The atmosphere is social which means you’ll make friends if you’re a solo traveler.

They also include a locker for your backpack and/or belongings.

TIP: Always bring your own lock just in case. Some hostels don’t provide it. Also, a thick lock doesn’t always fit hostel lockers, make sure its a thinner lock.

Check hosterlworld.com for availability.

Found San Francisco- Union Square Hostel

If you’re looking for a budget hostel check out Found San Francisco hostel. Their hostel dorms start at $36 per night. This means you’re sharing a room with others but its cheap and secure.

Like the name suggests, its walking distance to Union Square. A major shopping district.

TIP: If you’re not familiar with the city of San Francisco you may need to be aware of the aggressive homeless population. The homeless are aggressive and will follow you and ask you for money. Keep an eye out for them but dont engage them.

Let’s break down your Itinerary

Head to Kiwi.com to purchase an extremely inexpensive plane ticket from either Los Angeles (LAX) or New York City (JFK) to San Francisco (SFO) for a day or two. Tickets for the end of February are crazy low.

Let’s do gay San Francisco right this time. We’re going to hit the Castro for some gay nightlife. Daddy’s (440), Pilsner Inn, and maybe Moby Dicks.

However, I seriously think you should check out Powerhouse or SF Eagle instead.

Better yet, check out some sex clubs like the Power Exchange.

If the weather permits, layout, and tan at Dolores Park AKA the gay beach.

After we’ve taken painted the town red. Let’s head to some free sites. The Palace of Fine Arts is incredible. Or check out the Golden Gate Bridge for some awesome photo ops.

Don’t forget the creepy yet super cool Sutro Baths in Lands End.

If you can’t get enough of that creepy stuff make sure to take a tour of the awesomely haunted Alcatraz Island.

If you’re staying more than one night make sure to check out some of my suggestions for hotels or hostels in the area.
