OUE Skyspace Slide is the Best Unknown Tourist Attraction in LA

I’m a born and raised native of Los Angeles. This means I find everything here boring. So when friends or family members come to town, I really want to show them something fun and exciting. But, other than the Hollywood sign, or the Santa Monica Pier, what’s different and fun but most of all off the tourist’s radar? One thing I know for sure is the OUE Skyspace Slide is so fun, and yes scary, but certainly off many tourists radar.

The OUE Skyspace slide is located in the U.S Bank Tower building in downtown LA. It’s the tall, white, iconic building that got blown to bits by aliens in the movie Independence Day.

Until a few years ago, this used to be the tallest building in Los Angeles until the Korean Air tower went up. Since then, it’s been a battle of which building is better, which building has more fun things to do and which one has the highest bar on the western hemisphere. It’s an unintentional competition I find exciting to watch.

One of the many views from the OUE Skyspace building… You can see the Korean Air tower across…

So Who Cares About a Stupid Slide Anyway?

This stupid slide is pretty awesome. Not only is it located in this building but also the OUE Skyspace slide is located nearly 1,000 feet above the streets of Los Angeles, outside of the building itself. It’s entirely made of glass, which means it’s completely see-through. This slide goes from the 70th  floor to the 69th  floor. It is a 45-foot slide that makes you feel as if you’re probably going to die. Don’t worry, it’s completely enclosed and totally safe.

The OUE Skyspace slide is a lot of fun and worth it if you’re a tourist. Even if you’re a local like me, I tried it and loved it. Although this time around, I took my guests up and didn’t feel the need to relive this death-defying experience.

It’s not that scary though. The scariest thing about this slide is the anticipation you feel right before taking the leap. It’s like every horror movie you’ve ever watched has told you NOT do this, but you’re going to do it anyway. Alas, I am not living in the world of Final Destination.

I recorded my first experience in this video. It starts at 2:15.

What Else is there Other than a Slide?

Although the slide is a lot of fun and totally worth it, they do charge you more if you want to slide. Otherwise, it’s $25 to head to the top. To include a slide it’s an extra $8 per person. They also have a stupid $2 processing fee. I swear everyone is adding a $2 processing fee these days.

The gimmicky part of it all is they make you walk through hallways where they take your picture for a cost. You also walk by historical archives of Los Angeles. Believe it or not, I found this very interesting.

There’s a section of LED touchscreens where you can create your own graffiti art, which I thought was pretty cool.

Several floors and an elevator ride later, you make it to the top. You’ll find lounge spaces across the entire floor. Banquettes sticking out of the walls, floor to ceiling windows and even a bar. Although the Korean Air tower across the lot is now the tallest building with the highest bar on the western hemisphere, Spire73, I have a feeling this new bar is now the highest bar.

There are several outdoor areas you can lounge in, take pictures and just chill as you soak up the incredible views.

These views are pretty amazing. On a clear day, you can see Echo Park, the Hollywood Hills, Santa Monica, and even all the way down to good ol’ Long Beach. These 360 views of Los Angeles are breathtaking. It says a lot that I’m saying this because everything in LA bores me half to death.

While we visited, helicopters rode by in circles trying to get our attention. Passengers waived at us while we took our pictures. Wings on the glass panels make for the best Instagram photos.

What You May Not Know About The OUE Skyspace Slide & Building

The OUE Skyspace opened about three years ago. I was there on the first week. It’s gotten better and perhaps a little more gimmicky. I’m also surprised LA of all places is coming up with such great things to do for tourists and locals alike. LA doesn’t do things like this very often, so I looked into it.

It turns out that Overseas Union Enterprise (OUE) bought the U.S Bank Tower for a whopping $367.5 million dollars. OUE is the byproduct an Indonesian Entrepreneur and millionaire who runs OUE, which is actually based out of Singapore.

In other words, it’s an Asian building now. It belongs to him, so he can do whatever he wants with it and put in as much money as he desires. In other words, LA is not making things more fun for its residences, it’s the foreign investors! Thanks, LA.

Let Me Break It Down For You:

Although the OUE Skyspace slide is getting more and more popular every day, I went on a Sunday evening and it was pretty empty.

It’s not on tourists’ radar yet. Go before it gets mobbed! Every day it gets a little more popular.

It’s $25 per person to go up, but $8 more to ride the glass slide. There’s also a one time $2 processing fee.

There’s a bar, snack bar, lounge spaces, outdoor viewing decks, a restaurant and even yoga classes in the morning.

The views are really incredible.

Do I recommend it? Yes! On a clear day you can literally see all the way to the beach. I’ve never seen LA in this light. It’s pretty cool.
