Is Las Vegas Safe to Visit?

Summer is coming to an end next month, and believe it or not, we have been practicing social distancing for more than 5 months. I firmly believe everyone is tired of staying home. So if you’re wondering if you should start going out, you should ask yourself, is Las Vegas safe to visit?

Visitors

During this COVID pandemic, casinos have started to reopen little by little. Although a few still remain closed, those that have reopened have kept the party going.

I am currently living in Las Vegas, and even though I do not regularly go to casinos on my own time, I do go when I have family members visit.

A lot has changed within the last two months I have lived here.

For example, I moved here in late June. When my parents came to visit my fiancé and I, we went to the Venetian Casino. The strip was fairly empty, and staff did not let more than 2 people huddle up.

Most of the card tables were open, but not all bars or stores upstairs were open yet.

However, last weekend my parents came to visit me again. This time we went to two different casinos and walked along the Las Vegas Strip.

We first went to the Paris Las Vegas Casino, which was beautiful and my first time ever visiting.

It was hard to tell which stores and restaurants were open since we got to the strip around 10 pm.

After spending an hour or so at the Paris Las Vegas, we decided to walk up the strip until we got to the Flamingo Casino.

There were hundreds of people, including children.

As we were walking I noticed hundreds of people standing in line. There were two lines, going in opposite directions, but leading into the same shop.

Each line probably had around 150 people in it, and it was all for a Fat Tuesday.

If anything made me question ‘is Las Vegas safe’ it would have been that line.

Other than that, Las Vegas look as if it was going back to ‘normal.’

Is Las Vegas Safe When it comes to Masks and Sanitation?

If you’re wondering whether or not Las Vegas is safe, let me tell you a few things.

When it comes to wearing masks, people walking along the strip do not care. Some either have it on, or they don’t.

The workers who stand and walk along the strip earning money by taking photos with tourists, do not wear masks at all.

However, when it comes to being inside the casino, your masks have to be worn at all times.

I have noticed several times were staff have corrected people on wearing their masks, even if it is slightly below your nose, they will tell you something.

On the other hand, they are also good at sanitizing areas. I have noticed wipes, similar to Clorox Wipes, by slot machines for people to clean before and after each use. However, not all casinos offer this.

There are also several staff members cleaning around the clock. Not only on the main casino grounds but also in the bathrooms.

Another thing that I noticed was that every time dealers would switch shifts, they would wipe down their entire station before beginning.

All the workers at every casino, even the janitors, were wearing masks. Although they were not checking temperatures, I felt safer inside the casino than walking outside.

Another important thing to point out was that the casinos are not the ones enforcing masks. The governor of Nevada is.

Casinos are also more than happy to provide extra masks in case someone forgot theirs.

Masks aren’t the only thing casinos are providing. There are also several hand sanitizer stations located all around the casinos.

One thing I wish was available would be to have these stations available outside as well, along with someone regulating the mask policy, considering how crowded the streets get.

Although you cannot be accountable for others, always protect yourself and remember to wash your hands every chance you get.

Gambling vs Other Activities

When visiting Las Vegas, there are more things to do than to just go to the casinos and gamble.

Although I do recommend walking along Las Vegas Blvd at night at least once to get an idea of the nightlife, you should wear a face mask and wash your hands constantly in order to witness such a beautiful view.

However, I question if now is the time. Considering how crowded it can get.

On the other hand, there are also so many different kinds of food options on the strip and inside the casinos. Especially for certain places, you might have seen on television.

Since moving here, I have gone to several restaurants, shopping centers, and water parks.

When it comes to eating out, all the restaurants I have been to over the past two months have required masks until you are seated, they even require masks when walking to the restroom.

There has been a handful of times where the hostess of the restaurant was taking temperatures. It’s important to keep in mind that not all restaurants do this.

There are so many places to shop in Las Vegas. However, I feel safer shopping in certain places over others.

For example, my favorite place to shop is Town Square. It’s an open air shopping experience.

Many people don’t shop there either, so I feel safer getting the things I need.

Most stores also have a maximum occupancy that varies from store to store and could result in waiting outside in the heat.

However, I view this as making sure people are in and out of the store and not letting them get overcrowded.

Lastly, I visited a waterpark a couple weeks ago, Cowabunga Bay.

Although they had a face mask regulations and had hand sanitizer stations throughout the park, it was still hard to trust.

I went on a day that was not as busy, but towards the end of the day the water did not feel as clean and we decided to go home.

Is Las Vegas Safe Enough to be worth it?

Overall I would say a trip is definitely worth it. However, don’t just stick to the casinos.

Although I cannot personally speak on what clubs or bars are like during these times, I can only imagine them being overcrowded.

We know that we cannot force others to follow rules and safety guidelines.

However, we can make a difference if we all do our part by wearing a mask and constantly wash our hands.

Fortunately, I live in Las Vegas. My parents love coming to visit. Of course, we are always cautious. However, if it is out of the way for you to come, then I suggest you think it over.

Las Vegas is not going anywhere.

Although it is hard to predict how our circumstances will be in a couple of months, all I can say is that Las Vegas is safe to visit, but it doesn’t hurt to take precautions and be mindful of others.

Let me break it down for you:

I hope I’ve given you plenty of information on whether or not you should travel to Vegas. Currently, the casinos are killing it when it comes to cleanliness and overall protection. Rest assured that you’ll feel good about traveling to Vegas during these covid times.

You have to wear a mask at all times or face getting thrown out. Slot machines are constantly cleaned. Sanitizer stations are everywhere.

My only concern is the packed streets. It’s a mix of many people. Some people wear masks while others don’t. Nevertheless, I’ve felt safe every time.

So, if you’re wondering if Las Vegas is safe enough to visit during covid times, I am leaning more towards yes.
