Airports are a major hub for people, airlines, and let’s face it, many germs. This includes viruses like the coronavirus. With many airports shutting down and airlines canceling flights, Hong Kong International Airport is fighting strong with robotics. The city of Hong Kong has managed to maintain the infection, stop the spread, and abide by strict governmental policies that allow it to remain a role model.
So, What is Hong Kong Doing Now?
Hong Kong International Airport is currently the first airport in the world to use sterilization robotics to zap any germ and virus from its airport as reported by Business Traveller.
Currently, there are three cleaning and disinfecting robots. These robots clean around the clock, and use the power of UV light to radiate the sh*t out of our enemy, Covid-19. They are called Intelligent Sterilization Robots (ISR), and they move by themselves, like a Roomba.
Heres How They Work
Each robot has a rotating head that moves 360 degrees. It sprays disinfectant, but it also has UV light bulbs that zap any germ, any virus, any fungus on any surface, or in the air.
The disinfectant rate is currently 99.99 percent.
Don’t worry. They’re not spraying people with disinfectant. Although it would be great if they did.
Nevertheless, they section off a part of the airport, the robots clean, sweep, and disinfect, and they move on to the next section.
However, this isn’t the first time UV rays helped the travel industry. In fact, have you stayed in a nice hotel in Mexico? They use UV rays to zap your water to prevent any tourist from getting the dreaded Montezuma’s revenge. UV rays are highly effective.
Apart from the robots, efforts to keep the airport clean is a priority. All frequently visited areas are sterilized once an hour, if not by a robot by a person. This includes areas like escalators, elevator buttons, and self-check-in counters.
Hong Kong International Airport is also conducting temperature checks of all passengers for security measures. Of course, there are twice as many hand sanitizer stations throughout the airport as well.
I think this is fantastic news. It’s only a matter of time before this technology is everywhere.
What do you think? Should we have robots in LAX too?
