Hong Kong is a Foodies Paradise

Hong Kong is a gigantic metropolis with bustling people, incredible hustle, buildings on top of buildings, and restaurants at every turn. And when I say every turn, I mean everywhere.

You have all options, from hole-in-the-wall tea and cookie shops to sandwich shops, restaurants, food markets, and some of the best cuisine on planet Earth. So, if you’re a foodie, Hong Kong is the place to be.

On this trip, I went to some restaurants I wanted to mention.

Although I have not tried everything in Hong Kong, I believe these restaurants are a good place to start.

Madame Fu

Hong Kong has many places for high tea, and the last few times I’ve visited, I’ve always tried to book a spot with fabulous high tea. And Madame Fu delivered in this respect.

Madam Fu is based on a real person. But her identity is shrouded in mystery. The decor insinuates that she was either a fortune teller or a madame at a brother.

Eating at a former brother or fortune teller’s refuge seems pretty fun.

The Food

Madame Fu high tea in Hong Kong

We chose tea with a three-plate tower of scrumptious snacks, biscuits, chocolate cakes, bite-sized sandwiches, cookies, and scones.

I don’t really drink alcoholic beverages anymore, so I opted for a mocktail while Claude got a glass of champagne.

I ordered English Breakfast tea and sipped this incredible meal like only this city can deliver. I was in my happy place.

The Chinese Library

We made a reservation at The Chinese Library for Claude’s birthday. Surprisingly, it was across the way from Madame Fu.

The Chinese Library felt very high-end. I felt like I didn’t belong in this type of place. Although the dress code basically said, “Don’t wear ugly shit” (it didn’t say that literally, it said no jeans, torn clothing, open-toed shoes, etc.), everyone was wearing their best.

Sorry for the blurry image. This is the noodle dish at The Chinese Library.

The table next to us was wearing fur. Other tables wore suits and ties.

I wore something pretty basic but good enough. I opted for slacks and a polo.

The decor was dark and moody yet sleek.

The Food

For food, we shared a few things. We got a batch of dumplings to start. We followed that up with a rack of lamb dish and noodles.

We shared all three to make a scrumptious dinner.

Cupping Room

At one point, we stopped by The Cupping Room for a coffee and a snack after checking out Mid-Levels and wandering Hollywood Road.

I was expecting another cafe, but the food looked incredible. I watched as people ate these wonderful dishes.

I wasn’t hungry but shared a fluffy bagel with infused cream cheese. I can’t remember what it was called, but it was AMAZING!

I recommend this place for lunch. For sure!

Pleka Modern Italian

At one point, I had a mission: to find the closest milk tea shop. And according to Apple Maps, it was right around the corner from me. So I searched and searched. And 45 minutes later I couldn’t find it.

Some sort of fluffy egg dish.

But then, as we transferred to the IFC Mall, Claude remembered this cute little Italian place he’d eaten at on a prior trip. It was called Pleka.

However, when we were there, they had a pre-fixe menu for the day. And that’s what they were serving everyone. Otherwise, there was no other option.

Claude ordered an egg dish while I ordered the prawn pasta. We both got a salad and the same dessert.

It’s located right outside the IFC Mall, and the views were spectacular, even though it was raining today.

The restrooms were so modern it felt like I was in a science fiction movie.

FW Shop

I walked by this place on my way back to the hotel daily. And every time, I ogled the cookies like I found my lost long love.

The colorful bread, the fluffiness. Yummy.

I’m a sucker for cookies and, well, a sucker for Asian cuisine, and Hong Kong made me feel like I gained a pound a day.

Hong Kong cookie stands, FW Shop.

The great thing about this cookie shop is that even though I never found the milk tea place on Apple Maps, there was a milk tea stand next door.

So I finally got some milk tea, purchased a few of these cookies/pastries, and went back to my hotel to make love to them —I mean, eat them.

I hope these few restaurants I’ve mentioned in this post are a good place to start when researching restaurants to eat in Hong Kong.
