The Hilton Cape Town is located in Downtown Cape Town, right across the street from the Bo-Kaap Museum, or the historic Dutch colony. It’s a perfect area if I say so myself. It’s not only walking distance to the cute, colorful Dutch houses, it’s walking distance to all that Downtown has to offer.
One thing I’ve come to appreciate when booking a hotel is making sure they have lounge service. The Hilton Cape Town has a great lounge which includes free breakfast, lunch, high tea, happy hour and a dinner snack. There’s no need to waste money on restaurants if you’re on a budget. Although, venturing out is part of the fun.
However, make no mistake, I definitely got my moneys worth when it came to breakfast every day. Tea time is my new favorite time of the day, and I wish the USA adopted a tea culture. Biscuits, eclairs, little bite sized sandwiches and all the tea and coffee I can handle? You bet your sweet ass I took advantage of it.
I should mention the lounge is only free if you decide to get a room with lounge access or if you’re a premium/diamond statues in the Hilton Points program.
Hilton Cape Town Suite
The room we got is actually a great suite on the top floor. The views of Table Mountain are out of this world. I spent many days entranced by the Table Cloth of clouds descending from the heavens.
It has a living room, a couch and coffee table. There are two flat screen TV’s. It has nice dinning room and mini fridge. There’s no kitchen but we have a wet bar with utensils with dishes for any occasion. I’m sure I don’t have to mention the in-room coffee machine. Thats pretty much standard at any hotel room nowadays.
The room has one and a half bathrooms, which is always great if you’re traveling with more than one person. ‘Cause you never know when two people need to use the restroom at once.
The full restroom has a great shower along with a gigantic tub. Although, it’s frowned upon to use that kind of water. The Hilton Cape Town does its job to make sure we do our part in saving water. I don’t like baths anyway and I prefer to save some water for the locals who need it.
The double vanity is always a plus, because I honestly don’t enjoy sharing. I mean get your elbows out of my space!
The room itself is okay. It has a king size bed, because you know I’m a size-queen these days. The decor is modern but honestly it’s all I really need. I like this suite.
One of the best things about this hotel (and something I’m seeing more frequently) is the fact that they asked us how many pillows we need. I usually sleep with three hypoallergenic pillows if given a choice. To my luck, they have that option. Me and my partner got three pillows each. How spoiled are we?
The juliet balcony is useless but at least the view is great.
Hilton Cape Town Hotel Overview
At one point I tried room service. It’s good, quick and the South African choices are amazing. I got a Bobotie sandwich. I seriously just need a taste of everything.
The hotel also has a coffee shop and a restaurant I didn’t try. I had access to the hotel lounge which means there’s no need to actually buy what they’re selling.
The gym felt like an afterthought but at least they had one. It has pretty much everything you need. It’s small but functional. They also have a sauna which is off unless you request it. They do this to save water.
The arabesque pool with hookah cabanas is very nice.
The business center is a little dysfunctional. I tried printing at some point. It became a mission.
The printer was out of paper. When I found paper, it was recycled paper. Even so, once I started printing, it seemed to print all the documents others couldn’t print because it was too complicated for them to figure out. At this point, I went to the front desk and got paper. Once they gave it to me, I loaded the printer and printed my items again. The printer, only prints manually and you have to do so on the actual machine. It’s a giant mess. I finally got what I needed after 30 minutes or so.
Something else I found odd as I tried to conserve water… They seemed to continually take my towels even though I constantly hung them in an effort to not wash them. I suppose they have their own system when it comes to this.
The concierge service is great. All the employees are fantastic.
The Hilton Cape Town is pretty great if I say so myself. I fully enjoyed my stay. I couldn’t be happier.
