How to Find Cheap Rooms in Vegas?

This Las Vegas trip is so last-minute, I had to find accommodation fast or it was not going to happen. In the last few days I searched a wide array of hotels, hotel websites, shared room services and even travel agents. I found cheap rooms in Vegas all over the place. However, it really depends on the type of trip you’re planning. Since I’m a solo traveler, I just needed one thing, a bed. I want to pass this information in case you’re planning a trip to Vegas anytime soon.

My Quick Trip to Las Vegas

I was only in Las Vegas for 12 hours. This was a last-minute trip on all occasions. If you haven’t read the article leading up to this, where I looked for last-minute flight deals, you should start there to catch you up to speed.

At this point, I am looking for cheap rooms in Vegas. I didn’t care where. There is only one thing I require: I do not want to pay more than $100 for one night.

Let’s consider a couple of factors at play here. It’s currently summer. This means temperatures get into the 110-degree Fahrenheit range. It’s considered off-season because no one in their right mind loves this type of weather. The weather is already on my side. Things will be cheaper because of this.

The second thing to consider is day of the week. A weekend in Vegas is always more expensive than any weekday.

With these two factors in mind, we’re off to a decent start. Prices in the winter months are higher since the weather is moderate and pleasant for walking around all day.

Tip: Summer in Vegas is off-season. Prices are generally cheaper during the summer months.

Cheap Rooms in Vegas? Here is what I found:

Hotels:

If you want to stay in a hotel in Las Vegas on the weekend during the summer, prices will range from $100 and up. With popular hotels ranging from $300 plus per night, there is no way I’m going to pay that for one night.

You have to remember Las Vegas can charge what they want because the demand is high and people are willing to pay for it. It doesn’t mean the hotel room will be fancy, it just means it’s a rip off. That’s putting it lightly.

Considering, I needed to be in Vegas on a Saturday. Things might be more expensive. Lets consider my options.

I searched on Google, Expedia and Orbitz and found the same in terms of prices. Using my go-to apps, like SkyScanner, I found hotel options for $80 for per night. Eighty dollars is not bad. I kept that option open, took a screenshot and kept searching. If I can do better, I will find it!

At this point, I already answered my own questions. Can you do cheap rooms in Vegas? Yes. at $80, it’s not ideal but its a start.

Below you’ll find a cool Booking.com widget with hotels and prices for you to use. It is an affiliate widget, meaning if you decide to book something I’ll get a commission at no cost to you!

Hostels:

I love staying in hostels. Hostels are my go-to. It’s actually the first place I looked. There’s a few in Vegas. They’re very cheap. For $25 per night it cannot be beat. However, I always read the reviews and almost all Vegas hostels had bad reviews.

On the plus side, each hostel is a party hostel. The hostel I considered staying in was in a bad neighborhood, on the outskirts. The reviews had horror stories of hookers and drug dealer trying to break in to slang their business to tourists. I don’t care how rustic the hostel is though, unless hookers are trying to break in… that’s a deal breaker.

Then came a couple of conditions. Ninety percent of the hostels in Vegas required a two night minimum stay. I only needed one night.

I took this as my last resource. Cheep rooms in Vegas can be found in hostels. I placed this in the back of my mind and continued looking.

AirBnb:

I searched Airbnb and I was shocked. There’s so much accommodation in Las Vegas starting at $30 for an apartment on the strip. Yes, on the strip. On weekdays and weekends. The pictures make every apartment look glamorous. At this point I don’t care if it’s a studio apartment. If its $30 I want it.

Now, there is one issue I ran into while searching Airbnb. Considering this is a last-minute trip, everything was completely booked. All cheap rooms in Vegas were taken on the one night I needed. Airbnb was now completely out of the question.

I’m running out of options and I still refuse to pay more than $100 for one night in Vegas.

Travel Agency:

I work at a travel agency. Therefore I decided to ask one of my coworkers to see what they can find for me. I gave them twenty-four hours since I’m pressed for time.

They came back with some decent deals. Mostly deals I had already found.. They found cheap rooms for slightly higher than I found on SkyScanner. The same hotel was now $101 for one night. This made me worry because I wonder if that means that option is now out of the question. I looked back to find my $80 hotel deal and it was gone.

At the end of the day, can I afford a place that’s more than $100 for the night? Yes. Do I want to pay that? No! This is a challenge I am willing to accept. I am not a budget traveler just because I’m a cheap-ass. I’m a budget traveler who does his research because I want the world to know that they can also travel. Traveling is not for the rich. Travel is for everyone!

Tip: Staying anywhere in Las Vegas during the weekdays can be as cheap as $20 per night at most hotels —Even hotels on the strip. Want cheap rooms in Vegas? As long as you’re booking during the week you can find a plethora of cheap rooms.

Now I have to prioritize. If I had to stay anywhere, I would do the hostel for $25 first. Then, I would pay the $101 room for the night. If I needed to stay up all night and party, that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to do. That’s also the most fun option!

Then I remembered… I have one more option. It’s an option I’ve never tried but it’s not too late to start.

Misterbandb:

For those who don’t know Misterbandb is another website just like Airbnb, except it’s by and for the gay population.

Here, gay men all over the world place their home, apartment, or room for rent to other GLBT members. It’s brilliant and safe. It’s a way to make money and be one with your community.

As a gay male, this is a great option. This option is good if you’re concerned about discrimination. If you’re like me and have a need to write about gay venues and accommodation (that double as budget friendly) then it’s a win-win situation.

Just like Airbnb, you have to create a profile and add an image. I took a selfie. It’s that easy. I searched their data base for the date I wanted in Las Vegas and hit search.

There are several Misterbandb vacancies in Las Vegas. The prices range from $25 per night and up. Some places have a two night minimum.

I had no time to waste. I looked at reviews. Made sure the place I was picking was in a decent neighborhood. I looked at price and read the member’s profile before I made a decision.

Then, I booked a bed for $29 USD. To be completely hones it was a bed in a room with two beds. Potentially, I would be sharing a room. I don’t mind. That’s pretty cheap. After a few fees my total came up to $46 USD. After booking, I was told I would not be sharing a room that night. Therefore, I had my own space for cheap!

If you want to sign up for Misterbandb click on this image and get $10 off your first booking.

My Misterbandb experience was so amazing. I honestly wish I could’ve stayed longer just to hang with the couple I stayed with. I’ll tell you all about my gay “bnb” experience in the my next blog post!
