Today, American Airlines announced that they are going to start collaborating with Jet Blue. I’m not entirely sure what this means, but let’s analyze, shall we?
Their email states:
“Today, we’re excited to announce a new partnership with JetBlue to bring you more choices, more benefits, and the opportunity to reach more destinations with ease.”
Um, excuse me? What does this mean?
It means they’re code sharing, which means you can officially treat them as one airline playing off each other’s strengths. In other words, they will be encouraging you to use, connect, re-route, and use Jet Blue’s already existing routes alongside American Airlines routes.
This means American Airlines might reduce certain US routes and focus on expanding their long-haul international flights while Jet Blue focuses on their US routes (which will begin to expand at the end of this month.)
Their announcement states, starting 2021, new routes to NYC (JFK), Tel Aviv (TLV), Athens (ATH), and the return of seasonal service to Rio de Janeiro (GIG) will take place. New routes in Africa, India, Europe, and other places in South America will be announced as per their new partnership with Jet Blue.
I don’t know about you, but I am excited for new things to come, new routes and more memories. Regardless of what’s happening now with all this covid ish!
They didn’t say much about their Advantage Miles program or the True Blue program other than they’re working on it and will soon have an update. I suppose miles will be miles, and whether you use Jet Blue or American Air, there are more miles in your future.
All of this is really exciting. However, with the current covid travel climate, I’m sure many curveballs are coming our way. I love to travel, but at the moment, things are not as easy as they used to be. For now, let’s take good news like this when we can get it!
Got any insight you’d like to add? I’d love to hear it.
